I wonder what David Charles is doing these days, there's nothing online about him! maybe 'cause I don't know his surname, his earlier references that I know are a 1986 Calvin Klein ad by Bruce Weber and the famous 1986 "Summer Diary" photoshoot by Weber for Per Lui so I suspect that it was Bruce Weber who discovered him.
